Booking information – frequently asked questions

How long are counselling sessions?

Counselling sessions are usually for one hour. Sessions of 1.5 hours are often selected by couples and families for relationship counselling.

How frequent are counselling sessions?

Many clients decide to have weekly sessions, but the interval between sessions is your choice and may be guided by numerous practical factors.

I find that an interval of no more than two weeks between counselling sessions is usually preferable. This is something we would discuss at your initial session.

How many counselling sessions will I need?

It is not possible to answer this accurately, but it will always be your choice. A number of counselling sessions is usually required to adequately address any given issue.

The length of a client's therapeutic process is hard to predict. Clients often find that the focus and depth of their therapeutic work changes during counselling.

Do I book session-by-session or a block of counselling sessions?

You can either book session by session, or a block of counselling sessions. I do not ask that you commit to a fixed number of sessions.

Some Counsellors will ask you for such a commitment at your initial session. My experience is that most clients prefer not to commit to this. It is advisable to check whether a potential Counsellor asks for this before booking an initial session with them.

Fees

£55 per hour (one hour minimum booking time)
£80 for 1.5 hours

I charge the same for individual counselling, relationship counselling for couples and families, and for supervision.
