Counselling Supervision

Supervisor for Counsellors

I have been providing clinical counselling supervision for both qualified and trainee Counsellors for over 10 years. Counselling supervision is vital for supporting and enhancing practice, especially given the often high demands of the role.

Effective supervision should support Counsellors' broader self care, which can only enhance the quality of counselling provided to their clients.

I am committed to developing safe and respectful supervisory relationships in which supervisees can explore their experiences, needs and challenges in practice.

My role as a supervisor for Counsellors includes supporting development in practice, respecting supervisees' responsibility to implement changes.

Person-Centred Supervision

My experience and training in Person-Centred supervision means that I am particularly suited to being a supervisor of counsellors using the Person-Centred Approach.

I am very well versed in the application of Carl Rogers' classical Person-Centred counselling and also subsequent developments in Person-Centred theory and practice.

In my view, the Person-Centred Approach to supervision is also very suitable for supervising Counsellors using a variety of modalities.

I supervise Counsellors using various humanistic, psychodynamic and integrative approaches. Worrall (2007) says that supervision is a meta-activity that stands apart from various theoretical orientations to therapy, and can apply to any orientation. I concur.

Supervision for Trainee Counsellors

The quality of my supervision for trainee Counsellors has been greatly enhanced by the 10 years I have worked as a counselling tutor on practitioner qualification courses. My tutor role included managing and supporting trainees' counselling placements, facilitation of supervision groups and assessment of case study assignments.

I have a very secure knowledge of the integration of both counselling theory and ethics to practice. I hold much knowledge of the range of services in which Counsellors work and the application of their policy and procedural frameworks.

My work in counselling service management has enhanced my understanding of the support useful for trainees in meeting the challenges of training placements.

I am an approved supervisor for trainee Counsellors with a number of Universities and Colleges, and I'm happy to join the supervisor bank of other training providers if necessary.

Supervision for non-Counsellors

I provide casework supervision for those working in non-counselling roles.

Many organisations providing services for adult and children fund this, but individual employees are also welcome to undertake supervision with me. Casework supervision offers potential to reflect on, and develop practice in terms of professional relationships with clients and gain support for self care.

My supervision qualification is a BACP-endorsed Postgraduate certificate in counselling supervision.
